Current and planned YAM events and activities Next Meeting will be on Wednesday 25 th April 2006 The YAM are always keeping busy. One past event was a condom contest. It was a fun way of introducing young persons to contraception and proper use.This was during a Peer Educators Camp in which they hosted for students of the different secondary schools. This years peer educators camp was a success. It was held at the Delices Youth Centre where Yam members helped in the facilitation. Ms. Melissa Mitchel attended a workshop in Antigua to review the Fighting Aids through Training and Education (Fate) program. Ms Sandra Christopher underwent a training in Trinidad on Behavioural Change Communication as it relates to Aids and other STI's and other sexual and reproductive health issues such as commercial sex workers. She in collaboration with a staff member of the Association is now implementing a programme around the island.
Members have also participated in a project to improve the youth friendliness of the association. This project includes the repainting of the YAM office and the addition of many new items of equipment to the office. These are inclusive of couches, a televison, VCR, computers, etc. In December, we had our annual dinner with the associations board and staff which was a great succeess Members went to Grandbay as its social activity on in December. This was a great sucess. New members were recruited on saturday 21st January 2006 at the public service union building from 9 am ... where members and prospective members were trained on sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS |
YAM Upcoming Activities This years Regional Yam Camp will be held in Guyana from July 24th to28th 2006 at the Ocean View International Hotel and Conference Centre, Liliendaal Greater Georgetown. The theme of the camp is “Advocating for quality health services for young people especially those who are infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.” This years Local Yam Camp (summer 2006) will be once again facilitated by Dr Oluwakemi Banks. |
